Three Great Motorcycle Customization Projects to Try Out

motorcycle customizationStock bikes are great and all. Yet, once you've signed the papers giving you ownership of the motorcycle, you can't help but think about all the motorcycle parts and accessories you're going to add and modify. After all, a stock bike could be anyone's, but customized motorcycles show off the skill, know-how, and personality of their owners.

Here are a few great motorcycle customization projects that can help you take your new, stock bike and make it something that's truly yours!

1. Windshields.

Windshields will not only keep the bugs off your face while you ride, but they'll also help you stay warm and relaxed. Installing a new, better windshield is a prime motorcycle customization project that will immediately enhance the pleasure you'll experience from your ride. The important thing to keep in mind, though, is that when you're installing a new windshield, you've got to make sure that it's at the proper height and angle. To prevent an obstructed view or headlight glare at night, the windshield should be several inches below your eye level.

2. Wheels.

Wheels are one of the top motorcycle customization projects that riders undertake, since they'll make the bike look better and ride better. While most would think that the wider the better, the fact of the matter is that wider wheels will add more weight and could negatively affect how the bike turns and rides. Going wider is still a good idea, just be sure not to go too far. There are also several different varieties of wheels available, but if you're looking for the strongest set, you've got to go with forged wheels.

3. Chrome.

The most common motorcycle aftermarket parts are chrome additions to the bike. Chrome has an amazing aesthetic appeal, and just about any part of the bike can be chromed out -- everything from the wheels, to the handlebars, to the tail lights.

Motorcycle customization is a great hobby to pursue -- no doubt about it. These are only a few great motorcycle customization projects that you can dive into, but there are plenty more. If you have the imagination for it, then you can build it. If you have any questions about motorcycle customization, feel free to ask in the comments.
