  Yes. If you are converting from pull out knob, to cable, you should use the NCS987 kit that includes everything needed.

• For the XR650L is a Supertrap exhaust and uni filter considered lightly modded? So your jetting would work perfectly for that setup at Wisconsin altitude?

  No, simple bolt ons would not be considered highly modded. Increased compression, performance cam, and some head work is what we are talking about as far as highly modified. The jetting we install, along with the extra jetting for fine tuning should be just fine for your setup and your location.

• Can the included cable be removed to use the OEM handlebar mounted choke control lever? I have an 2004 XR650L. You guys have always been very helpful by phone and online.

  Our kit was not purposefully designed to work with the stock choke cable, but I was able to easily attach the stock cable on my personal, 2001 XR650L to the choke. I can't remember the entire process, but it was a fairly obvious process. The Mikuni TM40 with the remote choke and the stock Kehin on the XR650 use a similar plunger. If I remember correctly, there wasn't as much travel in the cable with the Mikuni carb as there was with the Kehin, but I was able to fully activate the choke anyway.

• I have a 2007 XR650L with an IMS 4-gal tank. Will the TM40 carburetor fit with the IMS tank?

  This carb should fit with the IMS 4-galon tank. I have a 4.7 Clarke tank on my XR650L and the carb fits nicely. If your tank fits with the current carb, it will work with this replacement carb too.

• MIKUNI TM 40 fit 2020 XR650L

  As far as I know, there have not been any significant changes to the XR650L, so the kit should work just like it does on earlier. years.

• Will the supplied throttle cables reach if I have ProTaper CR Mid with 1 1/8" bar risers?

  The cables that come with this kit are about four inches longer than stock, so you should be able to use them with your risers.

• Will you jet the carburetor before shipping at customers request?

  We pre-jet the carb to what we have found with the majority of bikes. We also include fine tuning jets for occasions where they are necessary. At this time, we are not custom jetting carbs or kits, so any additional jetting would need to be purchased separately and installed by the user. For this carb, the main jets are series N100.604 and the pilot jets are VM28/486

• I have a power bomb header and a DG silencer and a uni filter. Getting some backfiring. Should I go up from the stock jet that was installed originally.

  If you had any backfiring prior to the installation of the jetting, it is probably due to a burnt or not fully functioning exhaust valve. This is very common on the XR650L. I had the same symptoms on my own XR650L. I pulled the head and found the exhaust valve wasn't sealing properly. Another common cause is an exhaust leak at the head. If you didn't install a new gasket or didn't tighten the bolts sequentially (rather than tightening down one side fully then the other - which is wrong), you may have caused an exhaust leak.
  Finally, you may need to adjust your jetting if you have a aftermarket exhaust installed, but to determine that, you will need to do some testing. Please take a look at the Mikuni tuning and jetting manual on my website. It will tell you how to test your jetting and what actions to take depending on the results of the test. • I have a 2002 xr650l with an fmf header, and power core 4 muffler, along with a snorkel removal and smog removal kit. i also have a stage 1 hotcam installed. Will this kit come with the right jetting to compensate for all extra power and full needs? Will I even need to mess with the jetting? Also is there any way for me to get or add a choke extinction cord to mount the choke where the stock choke was on the handlebars? Thanks, -Guy

  We include a few larger mains with the kit, so I think you should be fine, but its too hard to say as everything bike and riding scenario is a little bit different. Other than possibly needing to swap out to one of the other included mains, you should not have to mess with any of the other jetting. As for the choke cable, you can remove the short cable that is included, and connect a bar activated cable to the carb, in its place. It should be pretty straight forward.
