Description

Details

We have been asked many, many times to produce a kit for the Virago 750/920.  The wait is over!

Brand new carburetor kit consisting of genuine Mikuni 34mm carburetors, pre-jetted with proven specs utilizing genuine Mikuni components.

  • Pre-jetted carbs for stock to mildly modified engines
  • CNC machined bolt on flange adapters with perfectly mated rubber connectors and clamps
  • M6 x 1.0 threaded hole in each manifold for carburetor syncing - with stainless plugs
  • Correct assembly length for use with the stock air tubes
  • Stainless steel flange adapter allen bolts
  • 1-2 cable for use with the factory throttle assembly and some aftermarket units - 42" case length
  • Additional jetting included.  2 Sizes of mains, and 2 sizes of pilots
  • Viton, ultra high quality, high temperature manifold o-rings

We don't just swap out the mains and pilots.  Slide, needle jet, needle, main, and pilots have all been chosen for the best possible combination.  Due to the engine design of the 750/920 we opted to swap in the knob style choke assemblies for easy access.  Because each bike is different, and because these are shipped all over the world, we cannot guarantee out of the box compatibility.  Climate, altitude, and engine setup all play into the fuel requirements that must be met.  We include the additional mains and pilots for such occasions.  Most customers will find they can install and run the carbs just as supplied without any tinkering.

We CNC machined our flange adapters in house and paired them with perfectly sized, high quality English made rubber connectors.  When we designed our flange adapters, we mimicked the Mikuni spigot indent for a perfect fit, and perfect seal on both sides. These rubber connectors are not your typical straight, green stripe, radiator hose. When used with our flange adapters, they allow for a nearly step-less transition from manifold, to rubber, to carburetor.  The reduced turbulence through the intake means more efficient operation for more power, throttle response, and efficiency.

Custom made, high quality 1 into 2 pre-assembled cable for easy installation.  Cable is good for close to stock style bars and shorter, and is designed to work with the factory throttle housing and some aftermarket units.

I have not had running yet, however the fastest delivery I have had from the US to New Zealand ever, 3 days flat, impressed. Reasonable shipping cost not like some other companies.
The only thing I have noticed is the OME air filter boots that come from the frame to the carbs do not fit, they are not long enough, not sure how to deal with that yet but have no doubt I can fabricate something to look OK.

The carbs are great! Haven't gotten her up and running because I didn't have the right fuel lines (these mikunis need bigger than stock) I can feel the difference in the snap back though - I can tell it's gonna be nice. My only complaint - I was not sent the extra jets mentioned in the listing and now I'm going to have to take extra time to go get those sent to me. It's been a while since a business has failed to sent me what they put in the product listing.

Looking for new carbs for your XV ? Look no further, this is the real deal

I purchased this carb set for my 1982 Yamaha XV 920. The kit comes complete with everything needed to install new carbs; including the proper jets required ( this is a science of its own, finding the correct jets ) high quality flange adapters, a 2 in 1 throttle cable, and all mounting bolts needed. The carbs fit perfectly on the motorcycle allowing use of the stock airbox hoses. The complete installation required two hours, and I took my time as a backyard mechanic. Because the carbs are pre-jetted they were almost perfectly dialed in, my bike started without a hitch and I was ready to ride the very same day. The results are nothing short of astounding, the low and midrange are much stronger, the bike runs better then ever. I highly recommend this product, as well as the support of the staff.

Questions & Answers

  • Good morning!
What pod filter works with this setup?
What aftermarket throttle will work with this setup?

You will probably be limited to the EMGO pods due to the space limitations. The cable will work with many assemblies, but if you have one in mind, please let me know and I will check into it specifically.

  • Hi,
When you view carb kits for Yamaha it shows the one for the XV750 picture with air filter but when you then click on the image it shows a picture with without the air filters and doesn't mention them in description so could you clarify if they are included?

The Yamaha kit that we offer with air filters is for the XS650. The Virago 750/920 kit does not include filters, because it is intended to be used with the factory air tubes that lead up into the frame.

  • Looking to purchase one of your carb kits for my 92 virago xv750. I have cobra Boulevard exhaust on it. I also have 14 tall handle bars on this bike. Aside from the cable length will this setup work on my bike.

We have not tested these on the newer models, but as far as physical fitment, they should fit fine, and the jetting is likely very close. You will likely need to modify the cable, but you might want to take a measurement to know for sure.

  • I have an 83 750 Virago with a 2-into-2 MAC exhaust and K&N filter... How much adjustment do you think will be required for this kit to make it work?

Probably very little if any adjustment will be needed. We have the carbs with a very similar setup to yours.

  • Hello Would these fit on an 750XV 1985?

Yes, this can be used on a 1985 XV750

  • Is this price for two carburetors or one ?

Yes, two carbs are included, along with all of the other necessary components to install it.

  • Hello,
I want to buy this Virago Carb Kit, but I need to know if there is anything else I need. I will be using the bike at a height of 5900 ft.. Do I need special jets?

This kit is designed to work on a stock Virago ridden at altitudes between sea level and about 3500 feet. As you ride at altitudes higher than 3500 feet, you may require leaner (smaller) jets for the main and pilot circuits. We include a selection of jets with this kit, including smaller jets. These may be adequate for your needs. If you require smaller jets, we will have them in stock.

  • Hi,
Does the VM 34 carbs Kit fits on my Yamaha XV1000 SE Midnight Special 1983?
    Thanks for your reply!

Yes, this kit is suitable for the 83 XV1000

  • Can you please tell me how to modify the stock throttle cable to make it work.

This kit comes with a throttle cable that will work with the stock assembly. So, you don't need to modify your stock cable. If for some reason you want to modify the stock cable, you would first need to see if it fits with this carburetor. You would have to measure out the correct "free" length of the cable (the difference between the inner and outer cable). This free length includes the free length you need at the twist throttle and the throttle slide on the carburetor. Once you checked this, you can cut the cable and solder on a small nipple that will work with the Mikuni round slide carbs. Niche carries a cable end fitting kit which contains these small nipple fittings. I have attached a link below:
    http://www.nichecycle.com/ncs/categories/hand-controls/cables/99-82860-cable-fitting-kit.html
I can also send you a pdf with instructions for soldering a cable.

  • Will these carbs fit on an XV920r chain drive with the stock tank? It looks as though they will be too tall with the throttle cables coming out of the top.

Yes, no fitment issues with the chain drive. That is actually what we used to create the kit.

  • Will this kit work on a 1987 virago 1100 and can you ship to Canada V0H 1V5 postal code thanks Dave

Yes, this kit will also fit the 1100 models. You may have to tinker with the extra jetting that we include, depending on your setup. Please add the kit to the shopping cart. From there you will be able to view all the available shipping methods and costs.

  • What is the top and bottom pink tubes for?
Are these supposed to connect back to each carb? Or into the plenum?

Those are atmospheric vents, and should not be hooked up to anything. They need to be free and clear for the carb to function properly.

Answer by: Web Support (Admin) on Jul 1, 2021 10:02:00 AM
  • Can it be attached to the XV750 special vin # 5E5-001959?

Yes, it will mount up, but the jetting will need to be adjusted a bit.

  • Which of your throttle assemblies will fit the cable included? 920 carb kit
    KR mathias

You can probably make it work with most non-threaded, single cable, universal type assemblies, but the cable that we include was designed specifically for the stock throttle assembly.

  • Does this kit fit the 700cc Virago, and will you ship to England?

It should fit the VX700, but we have never tested or installed it one, so we cannot be sure. We have a local expert who specializes in customizing Yamaha VX models. He says our kits will fit the VX700, but again, we have no experience with that ourselves.
We do ship to England and we ship internationally almost daily.

  • hi,
can you please tell me what would be the ideal turn out on the idle and air screw. THanks

These adjustments are specific to the motorcycle they are installed on. There are no general settings. However, you can easily set your air screw by turning the screw in all the way until it stops. DO NOT screw it in tight. You can damage the seat on the air screw by doing this. Now, back the screw out about 1-1/4 turns. Start the bike and adjust the idle screw (the larger screw) until the bike is idling about 800-1000 rpm or at a steady, low idle. Now back off the air screw until the idle rises. Continue backing off until the idle peaks. When it peaks, tighten the screw about 1/4 turn. Now, go back and adjust your idle screw until the bike is idling smoothly at a calm idle (not a fast idle).

Yes, they will fit the chain drive model. We actually developed this kit on a 920R

Answer by: Web Support (Admin) on Dec 2, 2016 10:55:00 AM
  • I have a 1982 xv920. What jet setting would be best for this bike using these carbs? Are there any provision for vacuum with this kit (petcock)?

Our Yamaha VX920 carb kits are jetted for stock bikes at sea level. If you ride a fairly stock bike at a general altitude of less than 3500 feet, then this jetting should work just fine for you. If you ride at a higher altitude, you may need slightly leaner jetting. If your bike has been modified with a big bore kit, sport camshaft and less restrictive exhaust, you might need a little richer jetting. If this is the case, let me know and I'll send you a PDF for setting up the jetting on your bike.
There are no provisions with this kit for pulling a vacuum. So, if you have a vacuum operated petcock, you can turn the petcock on manually. Please be aware that sometimes this disables the reserve feature on vacuum operated petcocks. We have also had customers who replace one of the carb syncing plugs on the manifold with a nipple for pulling vacuum for the petcock.

  • Hi Guys,
I have received the VM34’s you sent me. Can you provide instructions? I’m wondering about vacuum lines/petcock etc. On my ‘81 XV920R
    Thanks
    Bill

Most of the customers buying these kits are experienced mechanics familiar with carburetors or they are buying them to have a mechanic install them.. A lot of these kits do not end up on stock bikes. There are so many potential variables when installing them: for example, how the cables are routed, or how a kit is jetted to a modified engine. That is why we do not provide instructions for installation. We assume a certain level of mechanical experience.
This kit does not include a vacuum port for the petcock. Some of our customers have threaded a vacuum port into one of the syncing holes in the manifold. Or, they simply use the petcock without the vacuum. Please be aware that on some bikes, doing this will bypass the reserve feature.
