I have a 79 Yamaha SR500 I bought on eBay with a VM36 Mikuni, that runs way too rich. I pull out the carb and it is fitted with a 310 main, 35 pilot, and a 6FJ6 needle. What would your jetting recommendation be for this application?
Thanks,
RickIt all depends on what throttle position(s) it is running rich. I can almost say with certainty that the main jet is too large. Depending if there are any performance mods done to the engine, you should be somewhere around a 230-250 at sea level. The pilot seems about right. At what throttle points does it run rich? What size slide cutaway is installed and what size needle jet?

Would this work in a 1980 Suzuki GN400?
We carry MIkuni aftermarket carbs to fit a wide variety of motorcycles, but Mikuni does not provide a list matching carbs and jetting to specific makes and models. To find out if a carb will fit your bike, you have to first know the right questions to ask. I wrote a short article that will help you with that. After you read the article, please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. Below is a link to that article:

Do you happen have a right-handed (idle screw on the right side) version of the VM36?
At this time Mikuni does not make a right side version of the VM36 aftermarket carb. This is only available in the 32 and 34mm versions. The only round slide VM36 we can get is the VM36-4 which has the idle screw on the left side.
